Astronomical evidence
NGC 4038 and NGC 4039, the Antennae galaxies, are an interacting pair with distorted stellar distributions, dust and long tidal tails. Their structures are evidence of a gravitational encounter; observations also reveal star formation within the disturbed system. [1] Galaxies are not solid bodies that collide as glowing balls. The wallpaper uses two disrupted stellar concentrations and faint tails to interpret their shared structure. The foreground planet and viewing direction are invented, enabling a wide nearby view without assigning this scene to a catalogued Milky Way exoplanet.
